ABOUT

I work with terracotta clay and porcelain to make sculptures using hand building techniques involving slab work, pinching and press moulding. I use various pigments like stains and glazes to further finish these high fired artworks in a kiln. Further I touch upon themes like universal human values and gender equality with culture and heritage in the background. I personally feel that aesthetics in the art intertwined with important themes can bring about change in the society and can be really empowering for anyone engaging with it.

Through the incorporation of body imagery and textiles, particularly lace, societal expectations regarding women’s roles are challenged, highlighting the weariness and reluctance to conform to traditional gender norms. The artworks act as mediators, fostering a dialogue between intention and manifestation, with the hope of initiating healing and resolution amidst societal inequalities.

Maneisha

My work is about making sculptures which tell stories of lived life and aspirations which leads me to delve into the unconscious ; thereby my works are never planned and allow the material to speak the intangible thoughts and emotions. Thereby my works are often anthropomorphic and border on surrealism. The sculpture tell a story of the seen and unseen world. The seen world is the experienced reality and the unseen is the spiritual world. My works are led by intuition and play.
